Celebrate Tax Day 2019 with Free Food

After a few year hiatus, thanks to when Emancipation Day fell in the District of Columbia, Tax Day is back to its traditional April 15 date this year. In the United States, Tax Day marks the day when individual federal income tax returns are due.

For many of us, that date puts a slight damper on our springtime joy. It’s hard to get excited about the warmer temperatures and budding trees outside when we are indoors slogging away finishing up our tax returns.

Though as an individual you can definitely file your return well before the deadline, accountants may not always be able to file all of their clients’ returns ahead of schedule as it is dependent upon when they receive all of the necessary documentation.

Whether you filed your tax returns back in February, or you are finishing up this month, we can all use a little bit of celebration on April 15, right?

Many stores, companies, and restaurants are in agreement, which is why you can find so many freebies and promos across the country on Tax Day. An added bonus? If you are receiving a refund this year, you can save some of it while continuing to enjoy hot dogs and frozen yogurt. Or, if you owe a few dollars to Uncle Sam you still can join in the celebration with some free or discounted treats.

Here is a round-up of some of what we have found:

It’s really hard to turn down free food isn’t it? Especially when it’s a delicious chocolate chip cookie.

Kona Ice

Publicized as National Chill Out Day, Kona Ice is offering free shaved ice. As they say, “No taxation without relaxation.”

Great American Cookies

Help yourself to a free chocolate chip cookie at a Great American Cookie store this tax day. Nothing says stress relief like chocolate, right?

Bananas Smoothies and Frozen Yogurt

This smoothie and frozen yogurt chain is giving out a free small frozen yogurt to brighten American taxpayers’ days on April 15.

Hot Dog on a Stick

If you don’t have a sweet tooth, check out your local Hot Dog on a Stick for a Tax Day treat. This company is providing its customers with a free original Turkey Hot Dog or free Veggie Hot Dog. Yum!

California Tortilla

Say 1040 at California Tortilla on Tax Day and you will find yourself with some free chips and queso. A crunchy, cheesy way to celebrate filing your taxes.

The early bird gets the worm…um, or sausage biscuit, at least at Hardee’s this Tax Day. From 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. on April 15 you have the opportunity to fuel up for the day with a free made from scratch sausage biscuit.

However, here is the catch- don’t forget to say “made from scratch” with your order!

Office Depot

Maybe not so delicious, but definitely helpful in the wake of preparing tax returns: 5 lbs of free document shredding at Office Depot.

Discounts and Other Deals

In addition to snagging free food, you can also find some good deals from many restaurants. You will see a theme amongst many of these discounts: a play on numbers. Many of the discounts use the date (4/15) or the individual tax filing form (1040) as the structure of the discount.

Available for the whole month of April, Applebee’s is once again offering its Strawberry Dollarita, which is (you guessed it) only one dollar. Plus, it comes with a Twizzlers straw!

Bruegger’s Bagels

Treat the office on Tax Day by purchase the Bruegger’s Big Bagel Bundle (13 bagels, 2 tubs of cream cheese) for only $10.40.

Potbelly Sandwiches

Everyone loves a good BOGO, especially if it involves sandwiches. Potbelly Sandwich Shops is offering buy one get one free entrees. The only catch is, you need to say Tax Day at checkout.

Boston Market

There’s something about taxes and Boston that just seem so traditionally American. Not to mention the ultimate comfort foods found at Boston Market scream stars and stripes. Boston Market has a coupon available for $10.40 off of a catering order of $100 or more as well as a Tax Day Meal Special for $10.40.

CiCi’s Pizza

Celebrate Tax Day on 4/15 with a dine-in buffet experience at CiCi’s for only $4.15 with the purchase of a large drink. Pizza is always a good decision–especially when it’s on sale.

Please note that we are not affiliated with any of these companies, nor do we receive any compensation for this post. Also, offer terms and conditions may vary depending on location and store, please make sure to call ahead to get all of the fine print details before heading out on Tax Day!

The above list was compiled with help from Today,, and tripsavvy.
